SPRAIN PRIVILEGE OF BEING
Los Angeles quartet Sprain have released a new track, 'Privilege Of Being', taken from their highly anticipated, 2-hour-long album The Lamb As Effigy or Three Hundred And Fifty XOXOXOS For A Spark Union With My Darling Divine. Signed to renowned experimental label The Flenser (Chat Pile, Mamaleek, Have A Nice Life), Sprain's previous output saw them transition from hushed slowcore on their self-titled EP to the disjointed post-hardcore/rock of As Lost Through Collision. Having already heard the demented cacophony of the upcoming record's previous single, 'Man Proposes, God Disposes', this new track cements their path into a sonic terrain that is in equal parts brutal, beautiful and bizarre. Opening with creaking, pastoral, plucked strings pursued by high organ drones, before bursting into tortured guitar feedback, singer Alex Kent's vocals drag across a bed of harsh, erratic stabs of noise. The track eventually resolves in a mournful yet somehow triumphant-sounding string and whistle denouement. Check out the visuals for the new track; an absurdist, one-shot video, directed by the band themselves. The full album is set for release on September the 1st on The Flenser. - Toby Evans-Jesra
